===== Analyze CORDIS data (EU-funded research projects) ===== Since 1994 several thousands of research projects have been funded by the EU. Hundreds of different institutions in many countries have collaborated on a very broad range of research topics. We're working on possible visualisations which should help researchers and the public see connections between the different collaborators and topics. Ultimately also showing trending research topics from FP4 until Horizon2020. ===== Raw Data ===== Provided by https://open-data.europa.eu * CORDIS - EU research projects under Horizon 2020 (2014- ) * CORDIS - EU research projects under FP7 (2007-2013) * CORDIS - EU research projects under FP6 (2002-2006) * CORDIS - EU research projects under FP5 (1998-2002) * CORDIS - EU research projects under FP4 (1994-1998) ===== Categories ===== * Reference * Project Title * Project Acronym * General Information / Description * Objectives * Activity Area * Subject * Start Date * End Date * Duration * Status * Total Cost * Framework Programme * Coordinator Country / Organizing Country * Contractor Country * FPx/H2020 ===== Tools ===== ==== Data Wrangling ==== * OpenRefine * IPython * Jupyter ==== Visualization ==== === Software === * dc.js - Dimensional Charting Javascript Library * D3.js - A JavaScript library for manipulating documents based on data * RAW - The missing link between spreadsheets and vector graphics. === References === * US-Budget * NY Times Obama's Budget Proposal * Open Budget Oakland * OECD Better * 138 Years of Popular Science * Startup Universe * Life Cycle of Ideas in Popular Science (print) * A slice for everyone (print) * Selling at Sundance (Pseudo-3D, print) * Funding Portfolios (interactive) * Relationship Matters (Mulitdimensionale Visuaisierung, print) ===== Storytelling ===== ==== Ideation Process ==== What stories can be found in the data and how can we visualize them? Wrangling stories out of chaotic data... with a little help from IPython ==== Visual Stories ==== ===A given set of data can be (mis-)used to tell completely opposite stories=== During FP4 Switzerland got most funding per project.
